The gigantic screen is the aggregation of images that this era has created, in which the virtual and the real are intertwined.
The bird unfettered by that frame is the free eye that observes all those images. Untainted by the meanings of images, it flies freely into and out of the screen.
Following the bird, the artist arrives at the ‘site’ where the Biennale’s space is being constructed. Residues of all kinds of acts and ideas—images loaded with man-made meanings—are to be exhibited in this site. All those images created by men have grown into something that an individual can neither fully understand nor carry with.
A faceless ‘shadow’ that has lost himself in a space he himself has created wanders about the site, abandoned and deprived of purpose and meaning.
The artist soothes the shadow and guides him back to its ‘home.’
도시의 거대한 스크린은 이 시대가 만들어낸 이미지들의 총체이다.
허상과 실재가 얽혀 있는 이미지들의 집합이다.
그 틀에 갇히지 않는 새는 모든 이미지들을 관조하는 자유로운 눈이다.
만들어진 이미지들의 의미에 사로잡히지 않은 채 그 안과 밖을 자유롭게 넘나든다.
스크린으로부터 나온 새를 따라가 작가가 다다른 곳은 비엔날레의 공간이 만들어지는 현장이다.
비엔날레라는 ‘사이트’는 인간이 만든 의미화 된 이미지들, 온갖 행위와 이념들이 펼쳐질 곳이다.
인간으로부터 만들어진 그 모든 이미지들은 하나의 인간이 모두 이해할 수도, 담을 수도 없는 것이 되었다.
스스로 만든 곳에서, 스스로 길을 잃은 얼굴 없는 ‘그림자’는 목적도,
의미도 결핍한 채 버려져 그 사이트 안을 방황하며 부유한다.
그 그림자를 어루만지는 작가는 그를 다시금 본래의 ‘집’으로 이끈다.
